Never before have the political elites of this country so fully and completely embraced national decline. And they should know – with one policy they have caused most of it. I’m not saying everything was perfect in 1990, but since then things have got 10 times worse. Overburdened NHS, more and more houses being built on the Green Belt, crime rates soaring, class sizes rising – and we are supposed to pretend we don’t know why!

But this is a local election, so why am I talking about national affairs? Because national policies have local consequences and all the problems of local government are made worse by increasing demands on services.

However, I am convinced Reform councillors can make some headway in controlling local spending and getting better value for money for the Council Tax payer. That will be my focus and, if it is within my power, I will get to the bottom of what gets spent where and why. The Conservatives had their chance, the LibDems will spend like drunken sailors (and sell off assets to spend even more). Only by voting Reform, will things change.

Following a long City career I retrained as a psychologist. Working in Surrey’s Job Centres. I witnessed a failure to tackle fraud, the prioritisation of non-UK citizens, and idiotic decisions whilst people with poor literacy, skills and mental health were bullied. I believe local government is not fit for purpose. Cultural change is needed to challenge poor contracts and decisions, and to restore the concepts of service and value. I have business acumen, people skills and government experience. Born locally, I have always lived here bar five years working away. I created a business in Reigate, was a Business Guild member and served briefly as a Parish Councillor. Now an empty-nester, I enjoy radio broadcasting, car booting, performing in a rock-band, and our beautiful countryside.
